Zini Community Recycling Facility
Project Budget
Budget: R132,000
Project Background
The Zini Recycling Co-operative is a successful Mtunzini Conservancy community partnership project (Zini Recycling Co-operative). It plays an important role in local waste management and conservation.
In the last 8 months the community has recycled close to 50 tons of materials, protecting the environment and saving the Municipality in expensive transport and landfill costs.
Now, the Conservancy would like to erect a robust, weatherproof facility for the recycling buy-back centre at the Mtunzini waste transfer station. This will greatly improve working conditions and productivity.
The structure will be approximately 6.0 x 7.2 meters and will allow recyclers to work out of the weather and prevent materials from getting wet. It will also neaten up the recycling area by providing some storage area.
The estimated cost of the structure is R90, 000. Maintenance is estimated at R42, 000 over a 2 year period
