Sithandimvelo Environmental Education Project

Project Budget

Budget: R190,000

Project Background

Sithandimvelo is a Zulu name which means “we love nature”. The Sithandimvelo project started last year at Obanjeni rural community in the Umlalazi municipality. The project is run by Sibusiso Mahlangu, a graduate of University of Zululand and has become a beacon of hope for the Enjabulweni and Ensingweni primary schools.
Sibusiso believes that environmental education is a key to the future of our communities. The project introduces learners to environmental education from a young age so they become conscious of their impacts on the natural environment.
Mtunzini Conservancy has helped Sibusiso by introducing him to Visual Problem Appraisal (VPA) – a film-based educational methodology.
Now, funding is badly needed for a digital projector, stationery and other costs to support the Visual Problem Appraisal programme and expand the scope of the environmental education.
